On International Women’s Day, we are pleased to announce not only a first for South Yorkshire Scouts but also for the UK Contingent, with 5 extraordinary young women chosen to lead our Units to the 25 World Scout Jamboree in Korea.
Unit 43 led by Vic Wilding, a Scouts Leader from Barnsley who’s assisted by Harry Ives Owen as Deputy Unit Leader. Hannahmay Middlebrook and Ella Macleod make up the rest of Unit 43 as Assistant Unit Leaders.
Since they have been in role they have successfully recruited 36 young people from across South Yorkshire who make up Unit 43 and more information about them will be announce shortly.
Not only do we have Unit 43 going from South Yorkshire but a further 9 young people and Assistant Unit Leader Kat Steel will be joining Unit 38 with 27 young people and 3 leaders from Central Yorkshire County.
On selecting the five adults to lead 45 young people from South Yorkshire, Mike Firth OBE, Assistant County Commissioner International said “Our leadership team selection followed a robust process including independent observers from across the county. As a youth led organisation this also included the views of our young people, about who they would like to work with on this adventure of a lifetime.
The County Commissioner and I are delighted with the outcome, securing the services of five extraordinary young leaders, who already have demonstrated their passion, resilience, leadership skills, and team work to make South Yorkshires contribution the next World Scout Jamboree a success.”
